I forced the boys to stop at Hobby Lobby one day when we were out and they were both acting like sullen teenagers being dragged through the girlie craft store. And then, from afar, the Davester spotted it.
SPACE FOOD.
I am not a boy. I know, you’re shocked. Dave, on the other hand, was one… a long, long time ago. So, there are lots of cool BOY things that I didn’t do as a kid.
Freeze dried astronaut food is one of them.
They were both beside themselves with excitement. We waited until Tate was tucked into bed and the two of them tore into the package and started nibbling away. I did try it, it was like a weird cookie that tasted just like an ice cream sandwich. It is amazing what texture and temperature changes do to a food. Finn asked for a glass of milk, but said it was cool and would recommend it to other kids. We have another variety, Neopolitan to try.
Have you ever tried space food?

I recently saw this at Hob Lob and immediately had flashbacks to a 5th grade field trip. Space Food was all the boys wanted to buy in the gift shop at the Neil Armstrong Space Museum!
I've never tried it, but I do remember it from being a kid! Is it weird that I didn't expect it to look like the real food, just dehydrated? I thought it would be some unrecognizable version of it that just tasted like whatever it was supposed to be. Or maybe I jut never really spent much time thinking about it - lol.
I think I've had it when we toured NASA in Houston but I don't remember it tasting all that good.
I've had the neopolitan as a child. I remember enjoying it. Might have been the novelty of it ;)
I haven't had space food... but I am LOVING his Captain American shirt! Cap all the way!
What? They have this at Hobby Lobby? I think we need to make a trip out there soon.
I totally have had space food. It was the thing to get when we went to NASA in both DC and at Kennedy in FL.
YES!! We get the Neapolitan kind at the emergency store all the time--like, on purpose. When my kids were little there was an offer from Kellogg's Raisin Bran cereal and we ended up with about 20 packages of the stuff. It was fabulous! Needless to say, we've been hooked ever since. :}
