Dave and I are currently undergoing the crazy ass planning that is Thanksgiving. He made a comment that after last year, he is going to have a relaxing day.
I was wracking my brain, trying to think of what he was talking about. Was there a fight? Something ridiculous? Moodiness? Truth be told, all of our holidays tend to run together.
For the life of me, I couldn’t remember.
And then he reminded me that last year I was in the hospital, there was that whole hoping my wife doesn’t die thing going on for him, and I don’t think I ever told you guys this, but Dave got food poisoning. Chicken salad that they had in the fridge at the hospital for spouses who were staying over when the cafeteria was closed.
Mmmmm. Can’t even mention chicken salad around the Davester, it freaks him out a year later.
I don’t even really remember those days. I remember taking Meme to the store on Tuesday. I remember that we were going to tell our families that we were pregnant with Tate even though I was only 8 weeks at the time.
I didn’t get to decorate the tables. I didn’t get to do Black Friday. We didn’t get to share our news because we weren’t sure what would happen with the pregnancy. Hell, all I got of Thanksgiving dinner was a stupid takeaway container from my mom’s house.
Thanksgiving 2010 = The Suck.
This year though?
Tate arrived safely. My aunt is coming from California. My sister is coming home from college. The tables are going to be gorgeous. I’m planning our Black Friday strategy and believe me, there will be sisters and coffee and laughter involved.
And last year? It’s made me more thankful for what this year will bring.
What are your Thanksgiving plans?
Sounds like fun! I love being a family of all girl siblings!
ReplyDeletesent you an award. Pick it up...pass it on.

I remember reading about what happened last year around this time. So happy that you are doing good and Miss Tate arrived safely!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing better than a girls' day for Black Friday! I can't imagine not doing ours :)
I am eating chinese food and watching tv all day!!
ReplyDeleteHolidays are just way too much work. Both sides of Lee's families live 6+ hours away in Tennessee and my MIL expects us to go up there every single holiday. I already put the stop to that for Thanksgiving and am pretty sure the evil eye was in full force behind her sunglasses. But I gots to keep the sanity. We'll be devoting Christmas weekend to that Tennessee voyage.
ReplyDeleteEven though we'll be in state for the holidays, it'll still be a lot of leg work. Thursday will be at with my parents and my dad's side of the family, we'll be doing an annual friends Thanksgiving that Friday, and then Thanksgiving with Lee's parents at their house on Saturday. Bring on the pajama jeans!
So glad this year is going to be a million times better for you than last year. Gosh, I forgot how scary that whole event was!
Making up for sucky holidays the next year is the best. We were hoping for one more great turkey day with Grandma, but unfortunately, we're redoing our plans given her passing last month. We are rolling with the punches. One holiday tradition that we're keeping? A movie after we eat our weight in turkey.
ReplyDeleteThat was a year ago?! WOW! I think that's when I first starting reading your blog {sometime in fall of last year} So glad everything worked out and little Miss Tate came into the world safely:) Can't wait to see how you make up for last year.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes I am already maping out my black friday shopping too. I don't know about going out at midnight or whenever those damn stores open....WTF is up with that?!
We will be celebrating a day early at my cousin's house with my family because it's my aunt's birthday and my cousin is a nurse and will be working Thanksgiving day. Thursday we will spend with friends. And after all the cooking I did last year, I must say I'm looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteWell that is something to be grateful for - CERTAINLY! Yeah! I am looking forward to making my pies and drinking wine.
