Dave isn’t a camper. We went camping exactly one time in our nine years together.
Once. Five years ago. I don’t think we even have pictures to prove we actually went camping. And I have asked him approximately every year since to go again.
He doesn’t like being all gross in a place where a shower isn’t readily open and available. He doesn’t like sleeping in a tent with zero air conditioning and the possibility {that granted, *may* have come to fruition on our one and only trip} of torrential downpours and being stuck in a tent that might have leaked a bit with my little brother and sisters and nephews. He was soaked and pissed and then the temps ratcheted from a cool 70s to a humid, bug filled 90+ and he was ready to pack it up.
He doesn’t even like campfires.
I know, right?
You know what he really doesn’t like? Those backyard firepit thingys. You know the ones.
We had some neighbors that were in love with theirs and would have fires in the backyard several times a week, even on 90 degree days. The smoke would billow all over the place. I gotta say, it’s great for that smell once in awhile, you know like on the weekend or when you are ACTUALLY camping, but smoke wafting into your bedroom window from the neighbor several times a week is enough to be annoying.
So, imagine my absolute and utter shock when he mentioned the other night about wanting to get one… you know, for s’mores.
I’m sure that I heard him incorrectly. Not my Dave. No way.
But it’s true, he wants one.
Here is the thing… I know absolutely zip about them and want to make this move before he changes his mind back to the hatred of the firepit.
So do you have one? Are there any you’d recommend? What style should we get?
I'm with Dave on the anti-camping wagon. Camping is the worst ;)
ReplyDeleteI hate to say it, but I agree with your husband! Boo to camping. Boo to stinky smelly campers and tents that leak and humidity and mosquitos. But yay to smores! I love the smores! Unfortunately my comment is pointless because the last time I made smores was in the microwave. I know nothing about fire pits. Sorry I'm no help, but good luck with your shopping.
ReplyDeleteWe have a propane one, which I love - no cleaning ashes. But not the greatest for smores.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE camping and we go every year with our group of friends that also goes to a cabin in the winter. ;) I won a firepit, but sadly had to sell it because I couldn't use it in my town - too many restrictions and no where in my yard that fit within them.

Love firepits!
ReplyDeleteLove Camping!
I've only ever bought a metal "bowl" type one as a gift. They liked it.

Ha! I hate camping but I love firepits - especially for S'mores!
ReplyDeleteSorry, I don't have any recommendations but it's funny you mention this because just today my husband was saying he wants to put in an outdoor fire pit. WTH? We just spent $$$ on our backyard and he wants to add this and we have a baby and a toddler... um, no.
ReplyDeleteHowever that all being said, I think they sound lovely! Your husband kinda sounds like mine. Mine is not outdoorsy at all. Ugh.
