I am over at Style Lush today talking about my love of Finn’s Leapster. Just as I was writing that post, he got it taken away for four days for throwing a fit about turning it off to pick up his toys. And we were doing so well…
Finn’s 4th birthday is in April. He decided today that it’s going to be a cowboy theme. Can you tell that Sheriff Woody and Toy Story 3 in general is still all reigning at our house? I put the nix on a Toy Story party early {after last year’s CARS I can’t do another all out commercial theme too expensive!} and gave him about 383929 other suggestions. Zoo party! Superhero! Pirates! Circus! Then he saw a catalog and decided he wanted a cowboy party which will have to include Sheriff Woody & Jesse because he’s already asked about wearing his costume from Halloween. Yee haw. I know zilch about cowboys. Any ideas? I’ll take em.
I haven’t picked up my camera since the incident that knocked me on my ass and ruined Thanksgiving. I find a lot of blogging inspiration in my pictures so tomorrow I’m back on it. Before that, I felt like I couldn’t write enough and now I’m struggling and fighting a mad addiction to Wheel of Fortune on Facebook in lieu of spending my online time productively. I think part of it is the picture taking, it forces me to remember things I want to share.
Also incident related, I’m currently dreaming up a dinner party because I got screwed out of my fancy tables for Thanksgiving. Details will be forthcoming when I figure out what I’m going to do.
My 101 things in 1001 days also is in desperate need of an update. There are several things that need crossing off, books that have been read, things that have been accomplished. My favorite part of lists is crossing the damn things off so I don’t know why I’ve been lax on this. Yes, yes I do. It’s called sheer laziness. And streaming Netflix. We watched an obscene amount of Man v. Food yesterday and oddly everything he ate looked good so we had a hard time deciding on dinner last night.

I just had a cowboy party for my 3 year old in October. And I was pretty proud of it, but I do not compare to you in creativity, so take it for what it is worth:
-I folded bandanas into triangles then tied them together for the doorways & along the edges of the tables.
-I made a candy bar/dessert table of old fashioned type candies/desserts - with some modern stuff mixed in too (candy sticks, wax bottles, candy apples, etc.).
- I made themed cookies.
- we had cowboy food (grilled hamburgers, homemade baked beans, cole slaw)
- I don't know if they still have them, but the Hobby Lobby on Monroe St. had the COOLEST bandana print plates & napkins. I loved them!
I didn't do it, but you can get pretty cheap hats for your guests from Oriental Trading. I only had a few kids at the party, mostly adults.

Ok first of all, I thought the Leapster was a piece. But she got the hang of it and I guess we'll be investing in the ridiculous $25 games. I didn't buy it so I guess win win.
2) You know I don't know crap about parties. Hell, Ava didn't even have one. I know, I know. I blame the fetus. She'll be having a big one for 6, I'm sure.
3)Woman. Don't over do it. But I can't wait to see pictures from your non-Thanksgiving.
Dude we can totally talk cowboys. He needs a dirt cake for that kind of party. So easy and you can surely make it Michelle fabulous.

Fun! A cowboy theme will be super cute (especially done by you!) I'll keep my eyes open for ideas. I was thinking you could make each kid their own sheriff name tag/star. You could have a feedbag station or a saloon (candy /snack station). You could have a Wanted/Reward sign with Finn's pic or have frames made with the Wanted idea decoupaged on it and take a pic of each kid to print and put in frame as a favor. A spin on pin the tail on the donkey could have a nerf gun shootout at a poster...closest to target win. Hmmm,,I'll keep thinking!

I can't wait to see how his party comes together! I love the theme.
Though I don't have any real ideas for you, it seems like a cowboy theme should be pretty easy, right? Some boots, some cowboy hats, and ropes and you're all set.
Did you watch the Man v. Food where he went to Durham for the Dough Boy race? My BFF was on that one!
Let me just say that streaming Netflix is very dangerous to productivity. Seriously.
Broom stick ponies, that's all I can say. They make a lot less mess than real ones. Although long sticks in the hands of a group of 4 year olds could be hazardous to everyone's health... ;-)

I have no idea what to do for a cowboy party but I'm sure google will lead tons of fab ideas.
My boys loved their Leapsters when they were younger. We've moved on to the DS and the PSP.
