Sea Salt Chocolate Covered Oreos

13 February 2010
I am pretty sure I've just created the world's most perfect food.

Oh yes, yes I have.

And it's EASY.  So easy that even Elise can do this... and they look fancy.  And they taste even more fancy than they look.

First, put a bag of Double Stuf {and yes, there is weirdly only one F in Stuf} Oreos into the freezer.

Then, I made the red hearts using Wilton melts.  Microwave at half power in 30 second increments until melted & pour into a pastry bag.  Snip the end off and make two circles right next to each other.  Then, using a knife, pull the bottoms of the circles out to form the point of the heart.

Then microwave half a bag of good semi-sweet chocolate, half power in 30 second increments, just like the Wilton melts.  I used Ghiradeli chocolate.  I also threw in a handful of bittersweet because I like the chocolate a little less sweet.  Retrieve the Oreos from the freezer and start dipping, using a fork to turn over and to pull them out of their yummy chocolate bath.

I did about 5 at a time to allow for a little cooling of the chocolate before sprinkling with Vanilla Bean Sea Salt.  I use Fusion Sea Salt from Salt Works, it can be found locally at Anderson's or you can buy it here.  Warning, if you go over and take a peek, you may just find 10 different salt flavors you can't live without.  I would LOVE to try their Espresso Brava Sea Salt for these cookies next time.  You can also use whatever good quality plain sea salt that you have available to you.  Do not use table salt here, it's way too harsh for something like this.

These are gorgeous as is, and any other time of the year, I would leave them with just the sea salt on top.

I did add the heart to the top, it's Valentine's Day after all.  These took no time at all to make, so give them a try.  I promise, they are worth it.

The pictures definitely convinced me that we need to swap V-Day treats. I'll warn you, though, that I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the better end of this deal.
